In our previous article (you can read more about managing toxic backlinks here), we discussed toxic backlinks and their potential to harm your site’s Google ranking. To briefly explain, toxic backlinks originate from websites that Google considers to have a poor reputation. When these sites link to yours, Google may perceive your site as less authoritative, potentially leading to lower rankings.

While this method of searching for toxic links is free, it can take a significant amount of time for these “toxic links” to appear. Nevertheless, it remains a free and effective approach.

First, ensure your website is registered with Google Search Console. If you haven’t done this yet, simply search for “Google Search Console” on Google and follow the registration process. Registering your site can also contribute to improved Google rankings.

Once you’ve opened Google Search Console, select your website’s domain name in the left sidebar. Navigate to ‘Security & Manual Actions’ and click on ‘Links’. On the subsequent page, you’ll find a section titled ‘Top linking sites’. Click ‘more’ to view a list of websites that are linking to your website. Carefully review this list, as not all the links listed will necessarily be toxic sites.

Think of SEO not just as chasing higher rankings on search engine results pages (SERPs) like Google, but as a holistic approach to enhancing your site’s visibility, attracting organic traffic, and ultimately achieving your online goals.
